Community Awareness Programs

Fidelis Hospice recognizes the important responsibility and privilege that we share as a member of your community. One of our roles as a community member is to serve as advocates and educators. While death is a certainty, very few of us take the time to discuss our interests, wants, desires, and expectations. Many find that planning for one’s own death can provide great peace of mind for family and friends. By helping loved ones to understand needs and desires during the dying process, they are able to celebrate life and comfortably move through the stages of bereavement. As important and ultimately gratifying as this process will be, most have a very difficult time starting it. Fidelis Hospice provides numerous programs within the community designed to help individuals and families move forward along their journey of living with advanced illness.

When is it Time?

There are so many questions to answer for ourselves and our loved ones as we live with an advanced illness. Working in partnership with a number of respected agencies and individuals within the community, Fidelis Hospice is able to coordinate a panel discussion with representatives from the Council on Aging, attorneys specializing in Elder Law, representatives from the local hospital, the Police Department, and ourselves. Participants are able to learn from the presentations and are also encouraged to ask the experts directly about issues such as: When is it time to complete an advanced directive, write a will, learn about community resources, explore assistive devices to help maintain independence, evaluate home safety, stop driving, investigate assisted living and nursing home options, and think about hospice?
